COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Redshirt sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) turned in a third-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best mark to lead the Virginia track and field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday (March 10) at Texas A&M.

Efekoro took the third-place finish with a personal-best mark of 19.84m (65′ 01.25″), earning first-team All-America honors for the first time in his career.

“Pobo’s hard work and persistence again paid off,” said Virginia assistant and throws coach Martin Maric. “This is a young man who is as exceptional in academics as he is in athletics. We are very fortunate to have him. He is on an inexorable march in becoming one of the best athletes this program has ever had, and that is not easy to do at UVA.”
