Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia senior Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) has been named the ACC Men’s Field Indoor Performer of the Year, the conference announced Friday (March 17).

Other performer of the year award winners included Miami’s Shakima Wimbley, who was voted the ACC Women’s Track Indoor Performer of the Year, while Syracuse’s Justyn Knight claimed Men’s Track Indoor Performer of the Year honors. Miami’s Michelle Atherley was selected the ACC Women’s Field Indoor Performer of the Year.

The awards are determined by a vote of the league’s head track and field coaches.

Young finished third in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 22.41m (73-6.25). He earned first-team All-America honors with his third-place finish. It marked the eighth time in his collegiate career he has earned All-America recognition. Young’s NCAA performance followed last month’s showing at the ACC Indoor Championships, where he also took the gold medal with a throw of 22.42m (73-6.75). His top throw of the season of 22.91m (75-2) came at the Crimson Elite meet in early February.

Young’s selection marks the second consecutive season a UVA competitor has been honored by the ACC as an indoor performer of the year. Current UVA senior Henry Wynne, who won the NCAA indoor mile in 2016, received the ACC Track Indoor Performer of the Year award last year.

Young was the ACC Indoor Championship’s Field MVP in 2015 and received the same honor for the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships.
