CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ÃÆ’¢Ãƒ¢’¬” The Virginia women’s tennis team (6-5, 4-0 ACC) continues conference play this weekend, hitting the road to face No. 34 Notre Dame (14-1, 5-0 ACC) in a match-up of teams that remain unbeaten ACC play. The match will be played at 12 p.m. ET at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 5-2 win over No. 31 NC State at home on Friday, while the Irish posted a 4-1 win over No. 23 Wake Forest. The teams have played only two common foes in ACC competition, Boston College and Syracuse. Both teams defeated Boston College 4-3, while Virginia posted a 6-1 win over Syracuse to Notre Dame’s 5-2 win over the Orange.

Virginia has a pair of players ranked in the ITA women’s singles rankings, led by junior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, WV.) at No. 75, while freshman Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) is No. 94. The Cavaliers also have the No. 43 ranked doubles team with Mercer paired up with freshman Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.).

Notre Dame enters the match without a player ranked in the ITA women’s singles or doubles rankings, but the Irish have won 11 consecutive matches and are also unbeaten in ACC play. The lone blemish on the schedule came with a 6-1 loss to then No. 13 Michigan at home on Feb. 3. The Cavaliers also faced the Wolverines, falling at then No. 9 Michigan 4-3 behind a late rally from the home team on March 10.

The match at Notre Dame kicks off a stretch where Virginia will play eight of the next nine matches on the road. The lone home match in that schedule will be against Wake Forest on Friday, March 31.
