CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 29 Virginia women’s tennis team (7-5, 5-0 ACC) continues conference play on the road this weekend, facing No. 17 Duke (9-3, 3-0 ACC) in a 3:30 p.m. match at the Ambler Tennis Stadium on Friday (March 24).

It’s the second consecutive road match for the Cavaliers and part of a stretch that sees Virginia play 8-of-9 contests on the road. Virginia is coming off a 4-3 win at No. 34 Notre Dame on Sunday to remain one of four undefeated teams in ACC play. Both opponents this weekend are also undefeated in conference play.

Virginia is led by two players in the latest ITA women’s singles rankings with freshman Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) ranked No. 44, while junior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) is ranked No. 94. The Cavaliers have the No. 29 doubles team with the pairing of Mercer and freshman Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.).

Duke enters the weekend coming off wins at Florida State and No. 29 Miami this past weekend. The Blue Devils defeated the Seminoles 7-0 before picking up the 5-2 win over the Hurricanes on Sunday. The third ACC win for Duke came over then No. 16 NC State by a score of 5-2.

In singles play, the Blue Devils have four players in the ITA women’s rankings, with Meible Chi at No. 25, Samantha Harris at No. 49, Chalena Scholl at No. 52 and Kaitlyn McCarthy at No. 76. In doubles action, Duke boasts the No. 26 pairing of Chi and McCarthy.

Virginia will close out the weekend at No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday at noon. The match will be played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
