CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The field events paced the Virginia women’s track and field team through the opening day of the Virginia Challenge on Friday (April 21) at Lannigan Field.

Senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) and junior Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) finished second and third, respectively, in the women’s discus. Bohan threw a distance of 49.00 meters (160-9), while Green threw a mark of 48.54 meters (159-3).

In the 100-meter dash, senior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) notched a personal best with a time of 11.63. Her race placed her fourth in the event and ranked her sixth in Virginia history.

Sophomore Jade Baker (North Richland Hills, Texas) threw a mark of 46.41 meters (152-3) in the hammer, while sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) recorded a wind assisted mark of 12.77 meters (41-10.75) in the triple jump. Baker’s throw was a personal best.

Day two of the Virginia Challenge will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m.
