CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 5 Virginia men and Cavalier women’s track and field teams will host their last home meet of the season, the Virginia Grand Prix, on Saturday (April 29) at Lannigan Field.

The meet will open with field events at 10 a.m., while running events will begin at 5 p.m. Live results will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavalier men are ranked No. 5 in the Dyestat poll, No. 7 in the FloTrack poll and No. 9 in the USTFCCCA poll, according to the most recent rankings.

Five Hoos rank inside the top 10 after competing with some of the country’s top competitors this season. Redshirt junior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) recorded the country’s second-best shot put performance of 20.52m (67-4), while redshirt sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a mark of 20.39m (66-10.75) to rank third. Freshman Jordan Scott‘s (Portmore, Jamaica) performance of 16.44m (53-11.25) in the triple jump ranks him second in the nation. Senior Zach Herriott(Kansas City, Mo.) posted the eighth fastest race in the 10,000m with a time of 28:44.22. In the hammer, sophomore Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) threw a mark of 70.31m (191-6). He ranks eighth nationally.

The women’s team saw sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) set a UVA record in the 100m hurdles. She recorded a time of 13.46 which places her 22nd in the East Region.

This weekend’s meet will be the team’s fourth- and fifth-year recognition ceremony. The Cavaliers will honor 20 graduating student-athletes during the competition. The men’s team will recognize seniors Herriott, Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.), Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.), Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) and Jordan Young (Windsor, Ont.) and redshirt juniors Cam Collins (Calhoun, Ga.), Jeff Jernigan (DeKalb, Ga.), Thomas Madden (Front Royal, Va.) and Mihaljevic.

The women’s team will recognize graduate students Carly Hamilton (Springboro, Ohio) and Beth Hawling (Cheltenham, Great Britain), seniors Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio), Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ont.), Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.), Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.), Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) and Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.), redshirt junior Sarah Fakler (Phoenix, Ariz.) and juniors Micah Brickhill (Buckingham, Va.) and Maria Hauger (Shakopee, Minn.). The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m.
