CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia), a freshman member of the Virginia women’s tennis team, was named the ITA Rookie of the Year for the Atlantic Region with the release of the awards winners by the tennis organization on Monday evening.

She is the second player in Virginia history to win the award. Julia Elbaba won the award in her first season with the Cavaliers in 2013.

Johanson posted a 28-10 record in her first season with the Cavaliers, including a 16-6 mark in dual matches. The freshman split her playing time this past season between number one and two singles. Johanson posted a 7-2 mark at number two singles before moving up to the top spot in singles, posting a 9-4 mark at that position.

She reached a season-high ranking of No. 43 in the ITA Women’s Singles rankings.
