CASTAIC LAKE, Calif. – Redshirt sophomore Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.) finished second at the U.S. Swimming Open Water National Championships in the 10k swim on Friday (May 19) in Castaic Lake, California.

Racing against 32 athletes, Casey recorded a time of 1:58.37.383 to finish as the national runner-up. The performance qualifies him to compete with the U.S. national team at the FINA World Championships that run July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary. The top-two male and female competitors represent the U.S. at the competition.

Jordan Wilimovsky finished as the national champion, recording a time of 1:57.45.613.

The U.S. Open Water Championships will continue through Sunday (May 21) with 200 swimmers (male and female) competing in the meet. Performance in the meet will determine roster spots for the FINA World Championships, World University Games, 2017-18 national team and national junior team.

Casey is a current member of the 2017-18 national swim team. He will compete in the 5K swim on Sunday (May 21).
