CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 4 Virginia men’s and Cavalier women’s track and field teams will compete in the East Regional Preliminary Meet at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky. The competition will run Thursday through Saturday (May 25-27).

Live results and live video will be made available through links at VirginiaSports.com. Watch ESPN will stream the evening competitions with broadcasts starting on Thursday at 9 p.m., Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m.

Each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) will have 48 competitors, while relays will have 24 teams. The top 12 from every event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-10.

Four Cavaliers will have an opportunity for a return trip to Eugene for the NCAA Championships, after advancing from the East Regional Qualifying meet last year. Redshirt junior Filip Mihaljevic (Linvo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and redshirt sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) are seeded first and second, respectively, in the East Region shot put. Senior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) is seeded seventh in the 1500m, while senior Jordan Young (Windsor, Ont.) is seeded 13th in the discus.

Several Hoos hold strong regional marks as freshman Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) enters second in the triple jump. Wynne ranks third in the 5,000m, while Mihaljevic ranks seventh in the discus. Senior Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) is seeded high in two events, entering with the sixth-best time in the 10,000m and the eighth best in the 5,000m. Senior Jordan Young (Westport, Conn.) is seeded 15th in the hammer and redshirt sophomore Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.) enters the 10,000m race ranked 12th in the region. Sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) leads the women’s team, ranking 11th in the triple jump.

In addition to Wynne and Herriott in the 5,000m, freshman Lachlan Cook (Brisbane, Australia) is seeded 17th, Damarest is seeded 29th and redshirt junior Thomas Madden (Front Royal, Va.) is seeded 31st in the event.

Three Cavaliers will compete in the women’s javelin with sophomore Marija Bogavac (Mojkovac, Montenegro) seeded 19th, junior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) seeded 22nd and senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) seeded 28th.

Bohan will also compete in the shot put (seeded 23rd) and the discus (seeded 32nd).

Competing in a single event for the men’s team, senior Nathan Kiley (Chanitlly, Va.) will compete in the 400m dash (seeded No. 34), sophomore Charles Bowman (Harrisburg, Pa.) will compete in the 400m hurdles (seeded No. 39), redshirt junior Aaron Worrell (Fort Eustis, Va.) will compete in the triple jump (seeded No. 25), redshirt freshman Alex Corbett (Burke, Va.) will compete in the 10,000m (seeded No. 36) and sophomore Nace Plesko (Ljubljana Slovenia) will compete in the shot put (seeded No. 24). Redshirt junior Jeff Jernigan (DeKalb, Ga.) and redshirt freshman Sam Young (Lewes, Del.) will compete in the pole vault, seeded 27th and 40th, respectively.

Sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) will compete in the 100m hurdles (seeded No. 25), senior Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) will compete in the 400m hurdles (seeded No. 33) and redshirt sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) will compete in the triple jump (seeded No. 34).

The men’s 4x400m relay will also compete in the competition. Redshirt sophomore Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio), sophomore Jake Dixon (Falmouth Maine), junior Logan Carrington (Leesburg, Va.), Bowman and Kiley will compete in the event.
