2017 Women’s Soccer Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s soccer team will play 11 home games, including eight against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2016, as part of an 18-game schedule announced by head coach Steve Swanson on Wednesday (May 24).

The 2017 schedule continues UVA’s tradition of playing a challenging non-conference slate in addition to the rugged ACC portion of the schedule. The Cavaliers will face seven teams that finished the 2016 season ranked in the top 25 of the final NSCAA rankings – No. 2 West Virginia, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 7 Duke, No. 12 Clemson, No. 13 UCLA, No. 21 Notre Dame and No. 24 North Carolina State. Five of those seven games come at home.

“This is the strongest overall schedule we have played in my time at Virginia,” Swanson said. “We feel fortunate to play some excellent teams, both in and out of conference, which will no doubt test us and hopefully help us reach our full potential as a team.”

The Cavaliers open the season on the road, playing at UNC Wilmington (Aug. 18) and then at NCAA runner-up West Virginia (Aug. 24).

Virginia will then return home for five games. In that stretch, the Cavaliers will host Liberty (Aug. 27), Wisconsin (Aug. 31), Richmond (Sept. 3), UCLA (Sept. 7) and Penn State (Sept. 10).

The Cavaliers will play a 10-game ACC schedule, including six home games and four road contests.Virginia’s six home ACC matches are against Miami (Sept. 21), North Carolina (Sept. 24), Notre Dame (Oct. 5), Louisville (Oct. 8), Clemson (Oct. 14) and Duke (Oct. 26). The four road matches in conference play are at North Carolina State (Sept. 14), Pittsburgh (Oct. 1), Syracuse (Oct. 19) and Boston College (Oct. 22).

The ACC championships will begin with quarterfinal action on Sunday, Oct. 29 at campus sites determined by seeding with the semifinals and finals being played Nov. 3-5 at the MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

The NCAA championships begin on Friday, Nov. 10, and continue through the College Cup played Dec. 1-3 at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
