LEXINGTON, Ky. — Sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) led the Virginia women’s track and field team on the second day of competition at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Rounds on Friday (May 26) at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.

Leonard advanced to the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.44 and will be seeded 18th in Saturday’s competition.

Each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) will have 48 competitors, while relays will have 24 teams. The top 12 from every event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-10.

Twenty-four student-athletes from the 100m hurdles will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The top three competitors in each heat earned an automatic advancement into tomorrow’s competition. The next six-fastest times round out the field to create 24 competitors in the quarterfinals.

Leonard’s performance was the second fastest of her career. She finished fourth in her heat, advancing off her time.

NCAA East Regional Preliminary Rounds will conclude tomorrow. Events begin at 2 p.m.
