LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) led the Virginia women’s track and field team on the final day of the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Rounds in Lexington, Ky., at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

Bohan threw a mark of 16.51m (54-2) in the shot put, finishing eighth overall. The season-best effort qualified the senior for the NCAA Championships.

“Christine’s (Bohan) performance today was another big success to add to her impressive collegiate career,” assistant coach Martin Maric said. “With a fever and fatigue of competing each day of the competition, she still managed to throw a season-best result and punch her ticket to Eugene for the second time in her career. She’s one of the best and toughest athletes this program has ever had.”

Each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) had 48 competitors, while relays had 24 teams. The top 12 from every event move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-10.

Sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) placed 22nd in the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles. She recorded a time of 13.77.

In the triple jump, sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) placed 21st with a mark of 12.78m (41-11.25). Redshirt sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 24th with an effort of 12.72m (41-8.75).

The Cavaliers will compete in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Org., on June 7-10.
