Three Cavaliers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ââ’¬” Three Virginia baseball student-athletes were named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, announced Thursday by the conference office. Robbie Coman (Gr., Lake Worth, Fla.), Tommy Doyle (Jr., Vienna, Va.) and Chesdin Harrington (So., Montpelier, Va.) each were named to the all-academic team for the first time.

A 2017 Third-Team All-ACC honoree at catcher, Coman batted .347 with five home runs, 14 doubles and 40 RBI in 52 games this season. Following the season, Coman signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Doyle was named a Third-Team All-American by the NCBWA after going 3-1 with a 1.87 ERA and 14 saves in 23 relief appearances while serving as UVA’s closer this season. He earned Third-Team All-ACC honors. Doyle was selected 70th overall by the Colorado Rockies in the MLB Draft following the season.

Harrington was 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA on the mound this season. In 18 appearances (two starts), he worked 37 1/3 innings, allowing just 21 hits and 12 walks while striking out 38 and limiting his opponents to a .160 batting average.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
