Mercer Begins Play At ITA All-American Championships Tuesday

ITA All-American Qualifying Rounds Brackets

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) opens play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday as the qualifying rounds begin at the annual event played at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Mercer, who is ranked No. 74 in the ITA singles rankings, will face Margo Pletcher of Utah at 1:45 p.m. ET. The winner will then face the winner of the match between Duke’s Kelly Chen and No. 38 Gabriela Knutson of Syracuse at 5:15 p.m. ET. Knutson is seeded in the group of 9-16 for the qualifying rounds.

The Virginia senior is playing for a berth in the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships which begins on Thursday (Oct. 5).

Virginia sophomore Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia), who is ranked No. 34 in the ITA singles rankings, is set to compete in the main draw of the event. Mercer is also scheduled to compete in the main draw of doubles with sophomore Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). The pairing of Gullickson and Mercer is ranked No. 18 in the ITA doubles rankings.
