Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Brackets

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.), a senior on the Virginia women’s tennis team, ended her singles run at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday (Oct. 3) as she split matches in the qualifying rounds of the event.

Mercer, who is ranked No. 74 in the ITA singles rankings, defeated Margo Pletcher of Utah in straight sets to start the day, picking up a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the first match. She then faced No. 38 Gabriela Knutson of Syracuse in the second round of action, falling in a three-set match to the ACC opponent. Knutson won 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Mercer will compete in the main draw in doubles with teammate Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). The pairing of Gullickson and Mercer is ranked No. 18 in the ITA doubles rankings. Competition in the main draw begins on Thursday (Oct. 5).
