PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – It was a full day of tennis for members of the Virginia women’s tennis team on Thursday (Oct. 5) as sophomore Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and junior Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) competed in the main draw at the ITA All-American Champions.

The event is hosted for the 33rd consecutive year at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Johanson, who is ranked No. 34 in the ITA singles rankings, fell to No. 8 Sinead Lohan of Miami by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Lohan was the No. 7 seed in singles at the ITA All-American Championships. Johanson will now play Mia Horvit of South Carolina at 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday in the consolation bracket.

The doubles pairing of Johanson and Meghan Kelley advanced to the second round after picking up an 8-3 win over the Kentucky duo of Adachi and Parazinskaite. The pairing from Kentucky is ranked No. 13 in the ITA doubles rankings.

In the second round of action, the Virginia duo fell in a tiebreak to the second-ranked team of Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo from Auburn. The pairing from Auburn is also the No. 2 seed in the main draw of the tournament.

Johanson and Kelley tore through qualifying rounds, picking up wins over the No. 51 doubles team from Hawaii, a Clemson duo and the No. 41 doubles team from Florida Atlantic to advance to Thursday’s main draw. The pair went 3-1 against nationally-ranked teams in the event.
