As we gear up for the 2017-18 season, members of the Virginia wrestling team took some time to sit down and answer a few questions to provide a little insight and help our fans get to know them better as student-athletes.

Name: Brian Kennerly
Major: Commerce

Hometown: Drexel Hill, Pa.
High School: Upper Darby

What do you love most about competing as a Virginia Cavalier?
The feeling of brotherhood that comes along with this team. I feel like I am never alone and that I will always have someone I could go to for help.

Why did you choose Virginia?
For the same reasons I love competing. When I came down, I felt this sense of togetherness. Also, I saw the program was on line for a good path and I wanted to be a part of that and making history.

Who or what motivates you in your sport?
The desire to reach the peak of my capabilities. I want to be the best I can humanly be, and push my limits on the way to that

What are your goals for the season?
My goal for every season is to pridefully represent the Cavaliers by bringing both myself, and the program, as many wins and accolades as possible. If not that, then helping other people in the room get better so we can grow as a unit.

Favorite class?
Anthropology because I have it with a lot of the guys and it is cool being able to help them and have them help me

Waffles

Favorite movie?
Wreck-it Ralph

What would you sing at Karaoke night?
Only if I got to pick the song of choice

Teammates would describe you as?
Loud, energetic, and hopefully funny

Who is your hero and why?
Probably my step-father because he has always been there for me even though he technically did not have to be.

Name one thing most people probably don’t know about you?
I used to pole vault in high school.

If you could play any other sport, what would it be?
Football

If you could give any advice to younger athletes entering the sport what would it be?
Stick with it, and take it day by day. It never really gets easier, you just get tougher.

None for me, just Brian

Favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving, because I love to eat.

Breaking Bad

What is your biggest fear?
Not meeting expectations
