PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Virginia women’s tennis duo of Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) continued to advance at the ITA National Fall Championships, moving on to the quarterfinals after picking up a win on Thursday.

The fifth-seeded doubles team in the event, the duo of Johanson and Kelley, rallied after a hard-fought first set and picked up a win over the pairing of Leolia Jeanjean and Giulia Pairone. The Cavalier duo dropped the first set in a tiebreak, but rallied to win 6-7 (2), 6-4, 1-0 (9) over the ninth-ranked team in the ITA women’s doubles rankings.

With the win, Johanson and Kelley will now face the duo of Emily Arbuthnott and Michaela Gordon of Stanford on Friday (Nov. 3).

In singles action on Thursday, Johanson dropped her second-round matchup as she faced-off with third-ranked Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine in a three-set battle. Lahey, who is the No. 2 seed in the event, picked up the win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over the No. 34-ranked Johanson.

The 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which serves as the concluding event to the fall portion of the college tennis schedule, is the only intercollegiate event to feature competitors from all five divisions competing for a national championship.
