The Cavalier men earned an at-large berth for the NCAA championships after finishing third at the Southeast Regional meet on November 10. Sophomore Lachlan Cook (Brisbane, Australia) and senior Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.) led the Cavaliers, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Schmiede earned an automatic bid after recording the fourth-fastest time by an individual, not on an advancing team, at the regional site. She paced Virginia with a seventh-place finish.
Virginia will race the E.P. Tom Sawyer course for the second time this season, after first competing at the site for the ACC Championships (Oct. 27). The men’s program finished fourth in the 8,000-meter race with Demarest recording the second-fastest time at the meet. Additionally, Cook and senior Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) earned All-ACC honors, finishing fifth and 19th, respectively. Schmiede placed eighth in the 6,000-meter race, earning All-ACC.
