CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Junior Zach Fong (Moorestown, N.J.) was named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday (Dec. 5).

Over the weekend, Fong set a UVA record in the 200-yard butterfly at the Georgia Fall Invitational. His time of 1:42.67 placed him fourth in the meet, in addition to qualifying for an NCAA “B” standard.

In a meet that included No. 2 California, No. 4 Michigan, No. 10 Auburn and No. 12 Georgia, Fong advanced to the B finals in three individual events. He finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly (46.98), 13th in the 400-yard individual medley (3:50.02) and 14th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:46.65). All three performances qualified for NCAA “B” standards.

Additionally, Fong placed fifth with the 200-yard medley relay (1:26.38), sixth with the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:19.13) and 11th with the 400-yard medley relay (3:14.00).

Fong and the Cavaliers will return to action on January 5 against Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.
