CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia freshman Halle Hazzard (Commack, N.Y.) was named Grenada’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year on Friday (Jan. 5), as announced by the Grenada Olympic Committee.

Hazzard was honored for her performance in the 2017 U20 CARIFTA Games and the 2017 OECS Track and Field Championships.

In the U20 CARIFTA Games in Willemstad, Curacao, Hazzard finished second overall in the 200m with a time of 24.15 and third in the 100m with a time of 11.67.

At the OECS Track and Field Championships in St. George’s, Grenada, Hazzard earned a bronze medal in the 100m with a time of 11.76. She also earned a bronze medal with the 4x100m relay as the team ran a time of 47.24.

Hazzard and the Cavaliers will begin the 2018 indoor season on January 19 at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
