LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Virginia women’s track and field team captured six top-5 finishes at the Liberty Kickoff on Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.

Sophomore Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) had two performances rank inside the top five of the meet, topping the 500m dash with a time of 1:13.99 and placing fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.36. Additionally, her time in the 200m dash ranks seventh on UVA’s all-time performance list.

In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) finished second overall with a time of 8.52, recording the third-best time in school history. Junior Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) placed fourth in the event with a time of 8.55.

Freshman Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.) finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.58m (47’10”), while junior Alana Herran (Orange, N.J.) recorded a time of 1:17.01 to finish fourth in the 500m dash.

“We continue to make improvements and progress,” director of track and field Bryan Fetzer said. “The goal is to get better every day and every meet throughout the indoor season. Next week will be an opportunity to continue to build against some amazing competition and we will continue to build each week until the ACC and NCAA championships.”

Additionally, freshman Halle Hazzard (Commack, N.Y.) paced the Cavaliers in the 60m dash, finishing sixth overall with a time of 7.65.

In the high jump, freshman Gabrielle Hayes (Woodbridge, Va.) and junior Carly Feyerabend (Mechanicsville, Va.) tied for eighth place after both recorded a mark of 1.60m (5’3″). Hayes tied her personal-best performance in the event.

Virginia captured two additional eighth-place finishes from freshmen Madelin Rennyson (Lynchburg, Va.) and Kiera Bothwell in the 1000m and mile, respectively. Rennyson finished with a time of 2:54.65, ranking third on UVA’s all-time freshman performance list. Bothwell recorded a time of 5:10.41.

Virginia will return to action on February 2 at the Power 5 Invite in Ann Arbor, Mich.
