Clemson, S.C. – The Virginia men’s distance medley relay team placed fourth to start the Cavaliers’ competition at the 2018 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Clemson. UVA is in fourth place with five points following the first day of competition.
UVA’s team of freshman Alfred Shirley (Chesapeake, Va.), sophomore Spencer Dodds (Temecula, Calif.), senior Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg, Va.) and senior Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.) turned in a time of 9:42.32 which improved on their previous best time this year of 9:48.71.
“It was very important to get points on the board on the first day and the boys ran a very nice team race,” said Pete Watson, UVA assistant coach for distance events. “Now these boys need to recover and get ready for their individual events tomorrow.”
The three-day event runs through Saturday with events starting at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. ACC Network Extra will broadcast events on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday beginning at noon. Links to the broadcast and to live results are available on VirginiaSports.com.
