Facebook | Twitter| Instagram | Results CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Senior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) led the Virginia women’s track and field team on the opening day of the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami, on Friday (March 16) at Cobb Stadium.

Guy finished first in the pole vault, setting a school record with a height of 4.30m (14’1.25″).

“Bridget joined the 14-foot club today,” assistant coach Mario Wilson said. “She had a good week of practice with a few breakthrough moments. Though we were on the road, Bridget benefited greatly from the support of a large contingent of her extended family from the area cheering her on. Bridget has worked very hard for this performance.”

In the hammer throw, junior Jade Baker (North Richland Hills, Texas) recorded a personal-best throw of 53.58m (175’09”) to finish fourth in the event.

“Jade had a marvelous season opener,” assistant coach Martin Maric. “But her prodigious performance did not come overnight. She’s been working tenaciously every day.”

Senior Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 45.45m (149’1″). Freshman Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.) finished sixth in the event, reaching a distance of 43.20m (141’9″).
