The Cavaliers are ranked 20th in the men’s USTFCCCA preseason poll. The men’s team will compete against ranked opponents No. 12 Virginia Tech and No. 18 Auburn at the Raleigh Relays.

The Cavaliers return to action after last competing in Miami’s Hurricane Invitational March 16-17. Senior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) opened the season with a school record in the pole vault, clearing 4.30m (14’1.25″). Alfred Shirley III (Chesapeake, Va.) set a freshman record with a time of 51.75 in the 400m hurdles, while Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.) set a freshman record in the shot put with a mark of 15.31m (50’2.75″).

Virginia heads into its second week of outdoor competition with three performances ranked inside the top 15 of the NCAA. Guy leads the nation in the pole vault after her performance at the Hurricane Invitational. Junior Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) ranks fourth in the hammer with a throw of 70.93m (232’8″), while redshirt junior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) ranks 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.57m (41’3″).

The weekend meets are the last on the road for the Cavaliers, who host three competitions in the month of April. Virginia will welcome Maryland, Bucknell and Georgetown to Lannigan Field on April 7.
