CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving team had 14 student-athletes named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic team, as announced by the league office on Thursday (April 19).

The women’s team saw nine student-athletes earn the honor as seniors Caitlin Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.), Dina Rommel (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.), juniors Vivian Tafuto (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Kylie Towbin (New Canaan, Conn.), sophomore Morgan Hill (Olney, Md.), and freshmen Emma Seiberlich (Audubon, Pa.), Kyla Valls (Miami, Fla.) and Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala.) were named to the conference academic team.

Senior Luke Georgiadis (Jacksonville, Fla.), sophomores Joe Clark (Worcester Park, Great Britain) and Ted Schubert (Ashland, Va.), and freshmen Keefer Barnum (Louisville, Ky.) and Matthew Otto (Newark, Del.) earned the honor on the men’s side.

Tafuto earned All-ACC Academic honors for the third time in her career, while Marrkand, Clark and Georgiadis each tabbed their second academic conference honor.

During the season, Hill led the team as a five-time All-America honoree, while Cooper and Marrkand each recorded four All-America honors. Schubert finished the season as a two-time All-American, while Clark and Barnum captured their first national accolade.

Rommel, Tafuto and Valls earned All-America honors by aiding the Cavaliers in relays at the NCAA Championships. Rommel was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, helping the team capture a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She also finished first at the ACC Championships in the event. Tafuto swam with the 200-yard medley relay team, placing 15th on the national stage, while Valls competed with the 400-yard freestyle relay, tabbing a third-place finish.

Otto placed 20th in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA championships after finishing fourth in the event at the ACC championships. Seiberlich also captured a top-25 finish at the national meet, placing 23rd in the 200-yard backstroke.

In addition to the national success, Madden captured an ACC championship with the 800-yard freestyle relay. Towbin won the 3-meter board at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, advancing to the NCAA Championships in that event and the platform. Georgiadis earned All-ACC honors in the 200-yard freestyle with a second-place finish.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
