NCAA Championship Central | NCAA Doubles Bracket

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia tandem of Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) saw their stay at the NCAA Doubles Championship come to an end on Thursday in the opening round of the event at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The Virginia duo, ranked No. 16 in the latest ITA Women’s Doubles rankings, fell in a tight match against the 18th-ranked tandem of Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek from Loyola Marymount. The LMU pair won 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) in the first-round matchup.

Johanson and Kelley finish the season with a record of 27-11 after playing at the top spot in the doubles lineup for the Cavaliers for the bulk of the season. The Cavalier duo is the 12th doubles tandem in program history to advance to the NCAA Doubles Championships.

The duo from LMU started the match by claiming the first two games in the opening set, only to see Virginia’s duo tie the score at 2-2. The Lions then won the next four games to take the first set.

Virginia pulled out to a 4-1 lead in the second set before the Lions would pull within one with back-to-back game wins. The Cavalier duo closed things out to take the second set and set up the super tiebreak to decide which team would advance.

The LMU duo took the super tiebreak 10-7 to claim the match victory over the Cavaliers.
