June 11, 2018
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse senior defenseman Scott Hooper has been named a USILA Scholar All-American, becoming the 26th Cavalier to earn the honor from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
In 1989, the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
Hooper (Sr., Wakefield, R.I.) was one of UVA’s two captains in 2018 and was an anchor on the UVA close defense, causing 26 turnovers, while picking up 39 ground balls. He was named an honorable mention USILA All-American last month. Weekly, Hooper each matched up with the opponent’s top attackman. He concluded his career with 91 caused turnovers and 116 ground balls. Hooper also added one assist on the season. Hooper was also a fourth-round pick (28th overall) in the 2018 MLL Draft by the Charlotte Hounds.
