6.18.18: Hoos In The NWSL
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –With the season in full swing and the halfway point of the schedule approaching, we take a look at some of our former players who are playing in the NWSL and some of the highlight performances from this past week.
BRITTANY RATCLIFFE – UTAH ROYALS FC – MIDFIELDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 7-3 Goals: 2 Assists: 0 Shots: 3 Minutes: 265
Brittany Ratcliffe made a mark with her second goal of the season on Saturday – scoring in extra time to lift Utah to a 1-0 win over North Carolina. The goal in the 94th minute snapped a 12-game win streak for the Courage and handed North Carolina its first loss of the season.

DANIELLE COLAPRICO – CHICAGO RED STARS – MIDFIELDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 13-12 Goals: 1 Assists: 2 Shots: 4 Minutes: 1,066
Danielle Colparico and the Chicago Red Stars hosted the Portland Thorns and former Virginia teammate Emily Sonnett on Saturday evening. Colaprico, who played all 90 minutes in the midfield, helped Chicago to a 1-1 draw with the Thorns. The Red Stars and Colaprico return to the pitch this weekend, against Utah as she will face former Virginia teammate Ratcliffe and fellow UVA alum Sauerbrunn on Saturday night at home.

MAKENZY DONIAK – NORTH CAROLINA COURAGE – MIDFIELDER
Makenzy Doniak, the 2015 ACC Player of the Year, has missed this season due to an ACL tear. She helped the Courage claim the 2016 NWSL Championship prior to Western New York Flash’s relocation to North Carolina. Doniak played 21 matches a year ago, making 15 starts for North Carolina.
VERONICA LATSKO – HOUSTON DASH – MIDFIELDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 9-9 Goals: 2 Assists: 1 Shots: 10 Minutes: 413
The Houston Dash were off this past weekend, but return to action when Houston hosts Portland at 8:30 p.m. on Friday night. It will be yet another matchup where former teammates face off as Veronica Latsko and Emily Sonnett will both take the field. Latsko has scored a pair of goals for the Dash this season, including a game-winner against Seattle back at the end of May.

KRISTEN MCNABB – SEATTLE REIGN FC – MIDFIELDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 9-7 Goals: 0 Assists: 0 Shots: 0 Minutes: 644
McNabb, playing in the midfield for the Reign, helped her club to a 0-0 draw against the Washington Spirit on Saturday afternoon. The Reign are 5-2-4 on the season and second in the NWSL after the weekend. The Reign is 1-1-3 in its last five matches and will host North Carolina this coming weekend at 4 p.m. ET.
BECKY SAUERBRUNN – UTAH ROYALS FC – DEFENDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 10-10 Goals: 0 Assists: 0 Shots: 1 Minutes: 900
Sauerbrunn, a teammate of Ratcliffe’s in Utah, helped the Royals pick up the victory as she helped post the shutout of the Courage. She has split time this season between competing with the USWNT and the Royals. Sauerbrunn and the Royals return to action this weekend, facing the Chicago Red Stars at 8 p.m. on Saturday night.
EMILY SONNETT – PORTLAND THORNS FC – DEFENDER
Season Stats – GP-GS: 9-9 Goals: 1 Assists: 0 Shots: 2 Minutes: 810
Sonnett also returned to action for her squad this weekend after competing with the USWNT. The former UVA defender and ACC Defensive Player of the Year helped hold Chicago in check in the second half as the Thorns mounted a comeback to play the Red Stars to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.
