CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-  Virginia rising junior Jordan Scott (Portmore Jamaica) captured Jamaica’s national title in the triple jump on Thursday (June 21) after topping the event at the Jamaica Senior National Championships at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Scott recorded a jump of 16.55m (54’3.75″), winning the event by four inches.

In addition to the national title, Scott set a UVA school record with his performance. His career-best jump topped the Virginia record of 16.46m (54’0″) set by Marcus Robinson in 2012.  

Also competing today, former UVA student-athletes Jordan Lavender (class of 2015) and Henry Wynne (class of 2017) raced at the USA Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lavender finished second in her 400m dash heat to earn a spot in tomorrow’s semifinal race. She ran a time of 52.88, posting the seventh-fastest performance of the day.

Wynne captured a time of 3:46.20 in the 1500m run. He finished fourth in his heat, missing advancing out of his heat by three-hundredths of a second. His finished 22nd overall.

Lavender will compete in the 400m dash semifinals tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
