Marcelli, McCoy Lead Seven UVA Placewinners At Hokie Open
BLACKSBURG, Va. –Freshmen Victor Marcelli (Massillon, Ohio) and Justin McCoy (New Paris, Pa.) both won titles at their weight class in the freshman/sophomore division to lead seven Cavaliers who placed at the Hokie Open on Sunday (Nov. 4).
Joining Marcelli and McCoy as place winners were Yamin Kamali (Lansing, Mich.) at 125 pounds, Patrick McCormick (Poquoson, Va.) at 133 pounds, Gray Hart (Richmond, Va.) at 141 pounds, Drew Peck (Chambersburg, Pa.) at 174 pounds and Tyler Love (Clifton, Va.) at 197 pounds. Hart, Kamali, McCormick and Peck all placed at the freshman/sophomore division. Love placed in the open division.
McCoy went 5-0 with a pair of wins by technical fall on the way to his first-place finish at 157 pounds, while Marcelli went 5-0 with three bonus-point victories – including a win by fall, technical fall and a major decision.
At 125 pounds, Kamali went 4-2 on the way to a fifth-place finish, while McCormick also went 4-2 on the way to a sixth-place finish at 133 pounds. Hart went 4-1 at 141 pounds on the way to a third-place finish.
At 174 pounds, Peck dropped his first match before storming through the consolation bracket with five straight wins by fall to take a fifth-place finish. Love capped the place-winners with his 4-1 performance at 197 pounds for his fifth-place finish.
