The match was the fourth for the Cavaliers in three days as Virginia topped Fordham on Friday before splitting results yesterday with a win over Cornell and a loss to Columbia.

“Today rounded out a fun and successful weekend in New York, and with this morning’s win over NYU we go into the winter break 5-4,” head coach Mark Allen said. “The match yesterday against Cornell was an important result and one we had to fight very hard for. There is so much parity in the men’s collegiate game right now, that on any given day any of the teams from 10 through 20 are capable of beating each other and every victory is well earned. Yesterday was no exception. I’m proud of the guys for staying competitive, yet composed, and pulling out the last two must-win matches in five games (against Cornell). The win should see us hold on to our current number 12 position in the national rankings. We will now enjoy some well-earned rest and then prepare for the second half of the season.”

Virginia will return to action on Jan. 19, facing Williams College in Annapolis, Md.
