Scott Named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia jumper Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, the organization announced on Friday (March 1).
Scott holds the nation’s second-best jump in the triple jump, recording 16.90m (55-5.5) at the Tiger Paw Invite. He opened that series with a jump of 16.87m (55-4.25), before topping the performance in the fourth round. His 16.90m (55-5.5) jump set an ACC and school record. He is also one of just four athletes to jump 55 feet this season in the event.
At the ACC Championships, Scott recorded his second indoor ACC title in the triple jump. He recorded a mark of 16.37m (53-8.5) to open the event and advance to the finals, where he passed on his last three attempts.
In addition to the triple jump, Scott finished third at the ACC Championships in the long jump. The junior recorded a distance of 7.58m (24-10.5), setting a school record and earning First-Team All-ACC honors in the event.
Scott is the second Cavalier to be named the USTFCCCA Indoor Southeast Region Athlete of the Year. Marcus Robinson was named the Indoor Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year in 2012.
