CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The Virginia wrestling team opens postseason competition on Saturday (March 9) when 10 members of the squad wrestle in the ACC Championships at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. Competition begins at 11 a.m.

Virginia will be seeking its sixth ACC Championship in program history, the third most among current members of the conference. Also on the line are individual championship and berths in the NCAA Championships.

FOLLOW THE ACTION
All bouts of the ACC Championships will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra with live streams available for each of the two competition mats. Shawn Kenney and Tim Foley will handle the call on mat one, with Dean Linke and Rock Harrison having the call on mat two. Tickets are priced $10 for adults and free for youth 18 and under. ACC students with valid IDs are also admitted free.

AIELLO, MUELLER TAKE TOP SEEDS AFTER UNDEFEATED ACC SEASONS
Redshirt sophomore Jay Aiello (Chantilly, Va.) and junior Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas) took the top seeds at 197 pounds and 125 pounds, respectively, after each wrestler went 5-0 in ACC dual competition. The pair were two of only seven wrestlers to go 5-0 in ACC duals and Virginia is one of only two schools to have multiple wrestlers accomplish the feat.

AUTOMATIC NCAA BIDS ON THE LINE SATURDAY
The championships serve as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. The ACC has been allotted a conference-record 37 automatic qualifiers; the breakdown by weight class: 125: 2, 133: 4, 141: 4, 149: 4, 157: 4, 165: 4, 174: 3, 184: 5, 197: 4, 285: 3. To earn the automatic qualifier, each wrestler must finish a certain place or higher at the conference championships (e.g., place in top two at 125 pounds).
 
VIRGINIA IN THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
UVA has won five ACC Championships – 1974, 1975, 1977, 2010 and 2015. Virginia finished second at the 2012 and 2013 ACC Championships. The five ACC Championships is third most of all current members of the league behind North Carolina and NC State. Virginia has finished as runner-up 22 times, giving the Cavaliers 27 finishes in the top two in the league all-time. 
 
FIVE CAVALIERS LOOK FOR RETURN TRIPS TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
There are five members of the current squad looking to make a return trip to the NCAA Championships. Redshirt sophomore Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.), redshirt juniors Sam Krivus (Greensburg, Pa.) and Tyler Love (Clifton, Va.), Mueller and redshirt senior Will Schany (Blair, Neb.) all advanced to the NCAA Championships last season. Mueller and Krivus are both looking for their third consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, while it would be a second consecutive appearance for Hayes, Love and Schany. Aiello, redshirt freshman Cam Coy (Jeannette, Pa.), sophomore Jake Keating (Naperville, Ill.), redshirt sophomore Michael Murphy (Lookout Mountain, Tenn.) and freshman Robert Patrick (Ligonier, Pa.) are all looking for a first appearance.
