Virginia Competes at NCAA Zone A Diving Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s and women’s diving teams will compete at the three-day NCAA Zone A Diving Championships beginning on Monday (March 11) at the Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md. The competition will serve as the diving qualifier for the NCAA Championships.
Senior Kylie Towbin (New Canaan, Conn.), senior Kirsten Parkinson (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Jocelyn Porter (Cornelius, N.C.) will represent the women’s team, while junior Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) and freshman Walker Creedon (Cary, N.C.) will compete for the men.
Events will begin at noon on Monday and Tuesday and 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers open with the men’s 1m board and women’s 3m board on Monday. UVA will compete in the men’s 3m board and women’s 1m board on Tuesday, before closing the meet with the men’s and women’s platform on Wednesday.

The Meet
• Six divers will advance to the NCAA Championships from both the men’s and women’s 1m board, while five divers will advance on the 3m board. On the platform, five female athletes will qualify from the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, while the men’s competition will qualify four athletes.
• Divers that qualify in an event are eligible to compete in any other event at the national championship, provided that the diver finished in the top 12 at the same zone meet and has achieved the zone qualifying score.
• The meet will feature a combined 97 male and female divers from 36 institutions.
Hoos Diving
• Five Cavaliers will battle for their chance to advance to the NCAA Championships.
• Towbin leads the team as a three-time NCAA qualifier. The senior is coming off a third-place finish in the platform at the ACC Championships, earning her first All-ACC honor. She will compete in all three diving events.
• Shelton will compete in all three events at the NCAA Zone A Championships as he looks to make his third NCAA appearance. He enters the meet after finishing 11th on the 3m board and 14th in the platform at the ACC Championships.
• Creedon will also represent the Cavalier men in all three events. Competing in his first conference championships, Creedon finished 11th on the platform and 12th on both the 1m and 3m board.
• Parkinson and Porter will look to qualify for their first national championship. Both divers will compete in two events as Parkinson will dive in the 1m and 3m dives and Porter will compete on the 3m board and platform.
