No. 7 UVA Hosts First-Year Program Utah in a Sunday Afternoon Matinee

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Cavaliers (7-2, 2-0 ACC) return to action on Sunday afternoon to host the Utah Utes (4-6, 2-5 Away) at Klöckner Stadium. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. UVA is ranked No. 7 in this week in both the USILA coaches and Inside Lacrosse/Maverick media polls.

PARKING
Parking for Sunday’s game will be available on a first-come first-served basis in the University Hall and John Paul Jones Arena parking lots. Parking will also be available at the Emmet/Ivy Garage.

CAVALIER TIDBITS
• UVA owns its first six-game winning streak since starting the 2014 season 6-0.
• Dox Aitken is No. 3 all-time at UVA among midfielders in career goals with 90. He needs five goals to pass Brian Carroll (94) and Pete Eldredge (94) who share the program record for career goals by a midfielder.
• Michael Kraus has at least one point in all 41 career games he has appeared in. The active streak is currently No. 4 in the nation.
• Kraus has been on fire during UVA’s current five-game winning streak. He boasts 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 total points.
• Kraus needs one goals to become the 16th Cavalier to reach 100 career goals.
• In nine games this season, UVA is limiting its opponents to a 71.6 clearing percentage (131-of-183), which is 5.8 failed clears per game by UVA opponents.
• UVA has scored 119 goals through nine games this year and has assisted 75 of them. That means UVA has recorded an assist on 63 percent of its goals in 2019.
SERIES INFO
• Utah and Virginia are meeting for the first time in series history.
• The 2019 season marks the inaugural men’s lacrosse campaign for Utah.
• The last time UVA played an opponent that was in its inaugural campaign was 2017 when the Cavaliers hosted Cleveland State. UVA won 20-7.
Utah
• Utah is 4-6 during its inaugural campaign and is playing its first game in two weeks (at UMass). After winning four of its first seven games, Utah has dropped three in a row.
• Utah head coach Brian Holman is no stranger to UVA as he was an assistant coach from 2009-16 at ACC rival North Carolina. He also was the defensive coordinator and goalkeeper coach at Johns Hopkins from 1987-90 and from 1999-2000.
• Utah assistant coach Adam Ghitelman is a 2011 graduate of Virginia. Ghitelman was the starting goalie on UVA’s 2011 NCAA title team. He was a two-time All-American and left Charlottesville No. 1 all-time at UVA in career goalie wins (50) and No. 2 in all-time saves (586). Ghitelman’s win record was previously owned by UVA assistant coach Kip Turner (40). Ghitelman was also MVP of the 2010 ACC Tournament.
• Utah director of operations Tim McDermott was a volunteer assistant at UVA (2013-14) and the older brother of former UVA FOGO Brian McDermott (2007-11).
• Josh Stout leads Utah with 29 goals and 32 points. His 29 goals is tied for No. 5 in the nation.
• James Sexton leads the Utes with nine assists and is second on the team with 20 points.
• Jimmy Perkins rounds out the top scorers with 11 goals.
• Liam Donnelly is saving 54.6 percent of shots between the pipes and is posting a 12.01 goals against average.
