CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Virginia senior Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) was named the ACC Field Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday (April 10), for his performance in the hammer throw against Maryland and Pittsburgh over the weekend.
 
Jonsson threw a mark of 72.21m (236-11) in the Cavaliers’ home opener against Maryland and Pittsburgh on Saturday (April 6) to win the event. The throw was a season best for Jonsson, who was seven inches shy of his career-best and school record mark of 72.38m (237-6).  
 
Additionally, Jonsson’s throw ranks third in the NCAA and is the top mark in the ACC this season.
 
During the tri-meet with Maryland and Pittsburgh, Jonsson topped 70m (229-8) on four attempts with four throws that placed inside the top 10 nationally. He recorded his top throw of 72.21m in the sixth round of the event.
 
Jonsson and the Cavaliers will return to action April 19-20 to host the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field.
