CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior guard Kyle Guy (Indianapolis, Ind.) announced Tuesday (April 16) that he will enter the 2019 NBA Draft and hire an agent.

Under new NCAA rules, Guy can sign with an NCAA-certified agent, receive feedback and still return to UVA. The Virginia coaching staff will be involved throughout the process.

Guy was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four last week after leading the Cavaliers (35-3) to their first NCAA national championship. The NBA Draft will be held June 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“Kyle is taking advantage of the new NCAA rules to make the best decision for himself and his family,” head coach Tony Bennett said. “He has had a terrific collegiate career and has been a pleasure to coach. We will work closely with Kyle throughout the process and support whatever decision he makes.”

Under newly adopted NCAA rules, college players are allowed to retain the services of an agent during the evaluation process. If they choose to return to school, they must end the relationship with the agent and they will not lose any eligibility.

“I set a goal with my brothers when we committed to UVA,” Guy said. “Three years later we accomplished that goal of winning a national championship. I also set a goal for myself to play in the NBA. I will be declaring for the 2019 draft and signing an agent. I am diving in with two feet to achieve my dream, but I will leave the option of coming back to school open.”

Guy averaged 19.5 points in wins over Auburn and Texas Tech at the Final Four. He sank three free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining to lift Virginia to a 63-62 win over the Tigers in the national semifinals. Guy added 24 points in the Cavaliers’ 85-77 overtime win against the Red Raiders in the title game. Guy led Virginia in scoring at 15.4 points per game. He earned consensus All-America second-team honors and was a third-team All-American in 2017-18. Guy ranks first all-time at UVA in 3-point percentage (42.5%), second in made 3-pointers (254) and 26th in scoring (1,323 points).

Guy is the third underclassman from the 2018-19 Cavaliers to declare for the 2019 NBA Draft, joining redshirt sophomore guard De’Andre Hunter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior point guard Ty Jerome (New Rochelle, N.Y.). Hunter and Jerome plan to remain in the draft, ending their decorated collegiate careers.
