CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Senior Will Schany (Blair, Neb.) of the Virginia wrestling team has been named a Scholar All-America selection by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the organization has announced with the release of its annual team.
Schany is one of 142 wrestlers to be honored with the recognition this season.
“Honoring individuals and teams who have set themselves apart in the classroom is one of the greatest ways we can preserve and grow our sport”, Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director said. “Wrestling is one of the top collegiate sports having first-generation college attendees and it’s great to see so many student-athletes taking advantage of the opportunity the sport has given them by pursuing excellence in the classroom as well as on the mat.”
Currently, Schany is completing a master’s degree in higher education after earning a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Affairs a year ago. He qualified for the NCAA Championships for a second consecutive season after battling injury through most of the year.
