CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Marija Bogavac (Mojkovac, Monenegro) highlighted the women’s track and field team on the opening day (April 26) of the Virginia Grand Prix at Lannigan Field.
 
Bogavac finished second in the javelin, throwing a season-best mark of 48.06m (157’8″) in the third round of the event. The throw ranks Bogavac 24th in the region. Additionally, the mark is the fourth best in the ACC this season.
 
Redshirt senior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) also competed in the javelin, capturing a fourth-place finish in the event. Mautz threw 45.13m (148’0″) with her final attempt of the night.  

“It was a great day for our javelin throwers today despite the weather,” assistant coach Martin Maric said. “The women are in a great position to perform really well in two weeks.” 
 
Redshirt senior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) captured a season best in the invite section of the long jump. She jumped 5.92m (19’5.25″) to finish second in the event.
 
The Cavaliers will return tomorrow for day two of the Virginia Grand Prix. Events will begin at 11:30 a.m.
