Virginia Qualifies Five for All-ACC Academic Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams had five Cavaliers recognized on the 2019 All-ACC Academic team for the indoor track and field season, the league office announced on Thursday (May 2).
Senior Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) earned the academic honor from the Cavalier men’s team, while redshirt senior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.), senior Carly Feyerabend (Mechanicsville, Va.), senior Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) and redshirt freshman Halle Hazzard (Commack, N.Y.) were recognized from the women’s team.
Guy advanced to the NCAA Indoor Championships where she finished fifth and set a UVA record in the pole vault. She became the first female in program history to earn All-America honors in the event. She also captured All-ACC honors with a third-place finish at the ACC Championships.
McKee was the ACC runner-up in the triple jump, recording the third-best jump in school history, while Hazzard finished second in the 60m dash at the conference meet, tying her school record in the event. Feyerabend earned All-ACC honors at the ACC Championships with a third-place finish in the high jump.
On the men’s side, Jonsson placed third in the weight throw at the ACC championships. The performance was the fourth All-ACC honor in the event for the thrower.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released at a later date.
