JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-  Redshirt senior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) and junior Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) qualified for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas (June 5-8), during the second day of competition (May 24) at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds at Hodges Stadium. 
 
Guy qualified for her second consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.17m (13’8.25″) to tie for first place. She cleared the bar on her first attempt after passing on the three previous heights.
 
Knight ran a season-best in the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles to qualify for her third NCAA Outdoor Championships and second national meet with the Cavaliers. Her time of 57.05 placed her second in heat two and sixth overall to automatically advance to the next round in Austin. Knight advanced to  Friday’s quarterfinals after finishing first in her heat and third overall with a time of 57.99 in the first round of competition on Thursday.

“Angie (Andrenette Knight) and all of our athletes work hard and take pride in representing the University of Virginia” assistant coach Michelle Freeman said. “Angie has overcome a lot of obstacles this season but has remained driven to achieve the highest levels of success. Now, she has that opportunity at this year’s national championships. We are all proud of her fight and success.”
 
Junior Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) and sophomore Halle Hazzard  (Commack, N.Y.) also competed in the quarterfinals of an event  Friday. Jefferson recorded a time of 52.63 to place 13th overall in the 400m dash. Hazzard’s time of 11.43 in the 100m dash placed her 16th overall.
 
Virginia will conclude the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds  on Saturday with action beginning at 2:45 p.m. The top-12 finishers from each individual event and top-12 relay teams will advance from the East Preliminary Round.
