CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team won four of the top five all-state honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) on Thursday (June 13), the organization announced with its inaugural All-State Swimming and Diving team release. The Cavaliers also received 12 first-team All-State honors and four second-team honors.

Redshirt senior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.), freshman Casey Storch (Great Falls, Va.) and junior Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) received top honors for their performance during the 2018-19 season, while head coach Todd DeSorbo was named the VaSID Coach of the Year.

DeSorbo led the men’s team to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the program’s best finish since 2011. The Cavaliers recorded All-America honors for eighth individual swims and three relays. At the ACC Championships, the team finished third with 14 All-ACC honors during the meet.

A three-time All-American and two-time ACC champion in 2019, Casey was named the VaSID All-State Swimmer of the Year. Casey captured two first-team All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Championships, finishing fourth in the 400-yard individual medley and fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle, in addition to placing 13th in the 500-yard freestyle for second-team honors. At the ACC Championships, Casey won the 400-yard individual medley and the 1650-yard freestyle. He also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle at the conference meet to tie as the top point scorer in the competition with 92 points.

The VaSID Diver of the Year, Shelton advanced to the NCAA Championships in all three events. He finished sixth on both the 1m and 3m board at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, while finishing eighth on the platform. He recorded career-best dives in the 3m and platform during the season to rank second in school history on the 3m board and fourth on the platform.

Storch was named the VaSID Rookie Swimmer of the Year. He earned All-America honors with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in the 400-yard individual medley. Storch advanced to the top heat of the finals at the ACC Championships in two events, finishing fifth at in the 400-yard individual medley and seventh in the 200 breaststroke.

In addition, Virginia earned 12 first-team All-State honors and four second-team honors. Casey (freestyle and IM), seniors Zach Fong (butterfly) and Bryce Keblish (butterfly), juniors Ryan Baker (freestyle), Joe Clark (freestyle), Shelton (diving) and Ted Schubert (IM), and sophomore Keefer Barnum (breaststroke) as well as the 800-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay earned first team honors.

Senior Sam Magnan (freestyle), sophomore Matthew Otto (breaststroke), freshman Walker Creedon (diving) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team captured second-team honors.
