CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Junior goalkeeper Laurel Ivory (Surfside, Fla.) has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the third week of competition, the league office announced on Tuesday (Sept. 10).

Ivory helped the Cavaliers post a pair of shutouts on the week, including a key win over No. 15 Georgetown. The Cavaliers won the match with the Hoyas 2-0 and the match over Minnesota 2-0. The wins improved Virginia to 6-0-0 on the season and gave the Cavaliers four clean sheets for the year.

Ivory directed a defensive effort that limited the Hoyas to six shots and she came up with a big save on the only shot on goal in the first half to keep the Cavaliers in the lead. In the second match, the Cavalier defense held the Gophers to a single shot as she directed a stout defensive effort in the victory.

Ivory is now fourth all-time at UVA in shutouts (20) and fifth all-time in career wins (33).

Virginia returns to action on Thursday night, hosting William & Mary in a 7 p.m. match at Klöckner Stadium.
