CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday (Sept. 27) at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The Cavalier men will race in an 8k at 9:30 a.m. as the women’s team follows with a 6k at 10:15 a.m.

The Meet
Date: Friday, Sept. 27
Location: Panorama Farms – Earlysville, Va.
• Men’s 8k – 9:30 a.m.
• Women’s 6k – 10:15 a.m.
 
The Field
• Sixteen teams will compete in the women’s 6k race on Friday as the men’s 8k competition will feature 18 opponents.
• The Cavalier men dropped to No. 22 after their week away from the course in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Associations’ latest poll.
• Virginia will be the lone ranked team on the men’s side of competition, while No. 11 Michigan State competes as the only ranked women’s team.
• In addition to the Cavaliers, the women’s race will feature Bucknell, Charlotte, Elon, Florida, High Point, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan State, Norfolk State, Radford, Richmond, William and Mary, Winthrop, Wofford and Yale.
• Virginia will host Bucknell, Butler, Charlotte, Elon, Florida, High Point, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan State, Norfolk State, Radford, Richmond, Wake Forest, William and Mary, Winthrop, Wofford and Yale on the men’s side.
• The women’s race will have 191 athletes competing while 189 competitors will race in the men’s competition.
 
Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational
• The Cavaliers will host the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational for the 10th time, after last year’s competition was cancelled due to inclement weather.
• With the exception of the 2018 season, Virginia has hosted the meet every season since 2009.
• Both the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams have finished first on five occasions with both teams’ most recent win occurring during the 2017 meet.
 
Hoos Racing
• Five teams competing in Friday’s race won their conference title in 2018, while another seven finished as conference runner-up.
• On the women’s side, Bucknell (Patriot League), William and Mary (Colonial Athletic Association), High Point (Big South) and Richmond (Atlantic 10) captured conference titles during the 2018 cross country season, while William and Mary secured the men’s CAA crown a season ago.
• Michigan State (Big Ten) and Florida (SEC) finished as their respective 2018 conference runner-up on the women’s side.
• Elon, Liberty and Norfolk State placed second at the women’s CAA, ASUN and MEAC championships, respectively, while Charlotte and Liberty placed second on the men’s side at the C-USA and ASUN conference meet.
 
Last Time Out
• Junior Rohann Asfaw (Rockville, Md.) led the Cavaliers at the inaugural Cavalier Classic on Sept. 14.
• Asfaw recorded the top time at the race, finishing the 8k in 24:25.7, to lead the Cavaliers to a first-place finish in the team standings with 29 points.
• All five of Virginia’s scoring runners placed in the top 10 of the men’s race.
• Asfaw was named the ACC Performer of the Week for his performance at the Cavalier Classic.
• Junior Hannah Moran (Salem, Va.) led the women’s team, running a time of 17:31.0 for a sixth-place finish.
• The Cavalier women finished third in the team standings.
