Cavaliers Turn In Solid Saturday At ITA Atlantic Regional
BLACKSBURG, Va. – It was a successful Saturday for the Virginia women’s tennis team at the ITA Atlantic Regional as three of four doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals and six of seven players advanced through the opening round of singles competition.
The event is being played at Virginia Tech and continues on Sunday with doubles quarterfinal action and two rounds of singles. Play is set to begin at 9 a.m. The ITA Atlantic Regional culminates with the doubles championship on Monday (Oct. 28) and the singles championship on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
Advancing in singles action were seniors Camille Favero (Sacramento, Calif.) and Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), junior Vivian Glozman (Bellevue, Wash.), sophomores Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) and Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.) and freshman Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.).
After receiving byes in the first round of doubles on Friday, three of four doubles tandems picked up wins in both rounds of action played on Saturday. Virginia paired up Munera and O’Dell, Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas) and Favero, Glozman and Gullickson, and Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, British Colombia) and Subhash.
Players are competing for a spot in the upcoming Oracle ITA Fall National Championships to be played in Newport Beach, Calif., from Nov. 6-10.
