No. 1 Virginia Closes Regular Season At Syracuse Thursday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 1 Virginia women’s soccer team (14-0-3, 6-0-3 ACC) closes out the regular season on Thursday (Oct. 31), traveling to face Syracuse (3-11-2, 1-7-1 ACC) in a 7 p.m. match at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium.
With a win, the Cavaliers can lock up the second overall seed in the ACC Tournament and close the regular season undefeated for the first time since the 2013 campaign.
The match will be streamed on ACCNX which streams live on the ESPN app. ACCNX is available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network. • Virginia remained at the top of the United Soccer Coaches poll for the seventh consecutive week
• At 14-0-3, UVA is one of only two unbeaten teams nationally (BYU: 15-0-1) entering the week

• Laurel Ivory has been part of a stout defense that has 12 shutouts this season and posted seven
straight shutouts in ACC play this season prior to Boston College on Sunday (10/27)
• She is among the nation’s leaders in shutouts (T2nd – 11), goals against average (3rd – .243) and save
percentage (36th – .846)
• The seven straight shutouts in ACC play is the most in program history and was the most consecutive
shutouts by the Hoos overall since the start of the 2016 season
• Virginia is currently third in the RPI and has played 10 matches against the top 50 in the RPI
• UVA has faced seven top-25 teams this season with a 6-0-1 record against ranked opponents
A LOOK AT THE SYRACUSE ORANGE
• Syracuse enters the regular-season finale with a record of 3-11-2 overall and 1-7-1 in ACC play
• The one ACC win for the Orange came with a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest (10/10), while Syracuse posted a 1-1
tie with Pitt (9/20)
• Meghan Root leads SU with three goals and two assists (8 points) – two goals came in the win over Wake Forest
• The Orange have scored 12 goals as a team this season, but the defense has allowed 28 goals against
• Lysianne Prioux has started every game in goal for the Orange, posting a pair of shutouts while making 83 saves
• Syracuse is under the leadership of first-year Orange head coach Nicky Adams
THE SERIES WITH THE ORANGE
• UVA and Syracuse have played five times with the Hoos leading the series 5-0-0
• The series began in 2006, but resumed in 2013 when the Orange joined the league
• Virginia won the first three meetings by shutout before Syracuse got in the scoring
column in the 2017 meeting in the only road match for the Cavaliers
• The Hoos have outscored the Orange 21-1 in the all-time series with all four
shutouts coming at home for Virginia
• This will be the third straight season for the two teams to face each other
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST SYRACUSE
• Virginia posted a 4-0 victory over the Syracuse Orange in the last meeting which was played in Charlottesville
• Alexa Spaanstra hit the game winner for Virginia as she scored the first two goals of the match against Syracuse
• The first goal was unassisted, while the second goal came off assists from Betsy Brandon and Montana Sutton
• Ayan Adu and Sam Rosette scored the other two goals for the Cavaliers in the shutout victory
• The stout Virginia defense held the Orange without a shot on the night, while the Cavaliers posted 25 shots (nine
of them on goal)
UP NEXT FOR THE CAVALIERS
• Virginia returns to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting an ACC Tournament quarterfinal match at Klöckner
• The match will kick at 5 p.m. and be broadcast on ACC Network as part of a full day of quarterfinal action
