ATLANTA –  Freshman Maddie Donohoe (Annandale, Va.) finished 20th in the 800-meter freestyle on Wednesday (Dec. 4) at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships at the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center.

Donohoe swam a time of 8:45.92 to place 20th at the winter championships. Her time was the seventh-fastest performance in school history.

Additionally, former Cavalier Leah Smith placed third in the event, swimming a time of 8:27.49 to reach the podium.

Donohoe is one of four Cavaliers on the 2019-20 roster competing at the U.S. Open Championships. Competition will continue tomorrow with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m. Donohoe will compete alongside junior Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala.), freshman Kate Douglass (Pelham, N.Y.) and freshman Ella Nelson (Nashville, Tenn.) during Thursday’s events.
