Jinks Leads Virginia At Holleran Cup, CSA Individual Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Freshman Emma Jinks (Stratford, Prince Edward Island) led the Virginia women’s squash team on the opening day of the Holleran Cup at the College Squash Association Individual Championships at the Nicol Squash Club on Friday (March 1).
Jinks recorded an 11-7, 11-0, 11-3 win against Sydney Ku (Colby) in the opening round of the Holleran Cup South. She advanced to the quarterfinals where she defeated Lindsay Stanley (Penn) 11-5, 11-9, 11-4, earning a spot in Saturday’s semifinals.
Freshmen Caroline Baldwin (Rye, N.Y.) also won her opening match, defeating Lily Zelov (Cornell) 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 in the Holleran Cup West Round of 16. She would fall in the quarterfinals, dropping 11-1, 11-2, 11-4 to Sophie Mehta (Harvard).
Competing in the Holleran Cup North, sophomore Emily Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) suffered a 12-10, 12-10, 11-5 loss to Amita Gondi (Stanford) in the Round of 16. She faced Kaitlin Reese (Haverford) in the consolation quarterfinals, where she won 11-8, 11-3, 11-2 to earn a spot in Saturday’s consolation semifinals.
Freshman Mandy Haywood (Christ Church, Barbados) dropped her opening match in the Holleran Cup South 11-4, 11-6, 11-9 to Lakeesha Rarere (Trinity). Haywood rallied to defeat Keeley Osborn (Amherst) in the consolation quarterfinals 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, earning a spot in the consolation semifinals on Saturday.

Jinks will compete in the Holleran Cup South semifinals on Saturday against Emme Leonard (Princeton) at 4 p.m., while Haywood competes in the consolation semifinals against Melissa Swann (Williams) at 12:40 p.m.
Woodworth will face Alexa Comai (Middlebury) in the Holleran Cup North consolation semifinals at 11 a.m.
