Scott’s Record-Setting Performance Leads Virginia at Weekend Meets

Clemson, S.C. – Senior Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) etched his name into collegiate history on Saturday (Feb. 15) becoming just the 17th NCAA athlete to jump beyond 17.00m in the triple jump. Scott’s performance highlighted the day for the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams as the program closed the regular season at the Tiger Paw Invitational at the Clemson University Indoor Complex in Clemson, S.C., and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Track & Tennis Complex in Boston.
The Tiger Paw Invite
Scott recorded a jump of 17.02m (55’10.25″) on his third attempt in the triple jump to win the event at the Tiger Paw Invitational. His mark was the 24th-best all-time jump by a collegiate athlete and ranks him fifth in the world this season. Scott is the 17th collegiate athlete in NCAA history to clear 17.00m in the indoor event. His jump set an ACC and UVA record.
Scott recorded four jumps beyond 16.58m (54’4.75″) during the series. He holds the top seven jumps in the NCAA for the event this season. Scott’s jump of 17.02m (55’10.25″) also set a Clemson University Indoor Complex record.
Virginia’s success at the Tiger Paw Invite continued with freshman Jada Seaman (Pikesville, Md.) and junior Halle Hazzard (Commack, N.Y.) capturing the two-fastest 200m dash times in program history. Seaman ran a time of 23.76 to set a UVA record and finish 19th in the event. Hazzard recorded the second-best time in program history, running a time of 23.79 to finish 21st.
Senior Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia) cleared 2.17m (7’1.5″) in the high jump to finish the meet in third place.
In the 800m run, freshman Alahna Sabbakhan (Washington D.C.) ran a time of 2:10.38 to finish ninth as sophomore Sydney Coppolino (Somerdale, N.J.) followed with a time of 2:10.94 for 10th place.
Redshirt senior Sam Young (Lewes, Del.) cleared a height of 5.10m (16’8.75″) in the pole vault. He captured a sixth-place finish in the event.
The David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Redshirt senior Ari Klau (West Hartford, Conn.) set a UVA record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Klau ran a time of 7:51.57 in the 3,000m to finish 15th in the event.
Senior AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) ran a sub-four-minute mile, capturing the third-fastest time in program history. Ernst recorded a time of 3:59.38 to finish sixth at the meet. The time ranks fourth in the ACC this season.
